The Norwegian Environmental Protection Association has helped a junior member to get toy shops to provide environmental information about health and environmentally hazardous substances in children's toys.
At the request of one of our members, a 9-year-old girl, the Norwegian Environmental Protection Association has sent a request to Norway's largest toy chains to obtain environmental information about the content of health-damaging toxins in squishy foam toys, and routines for testing these toys before sale on the Norwegian market. As the toy chains Top-Toy AS, BR-Leker and TOYS"R"US failed to respond to the request to hand over the requested environmental information within the response deadlines set in the Environmental Information Act, these businesses were complained to the Environmental Complaints Board.
On 5 December 2018, the Norwegian Environmental Protection Association was upheld by the Environmental Complaints Board. The toy chains Top-Toy AS, BR-Leker and TOYS"R"US are obliged to provide environmental information about substances hazardous to health and the environment in children's toys.
