The Norwegian Environmental Protection Association reports Salmar Farming A/S for the escape of possible ILA diseased farmed salmon.
NMF reports Salmar Farming A/S, with the general manager, for the escape of an unknown number of farmed salmon. The escape must have taken place from the location Oterneset in Harstad Municipality. NMF takes the escape particularly seriously as ILA infection has been confirmed at the facility. The breeder says that the escaped salmon is not infected by ILA, but NMF doubts whether this is true.
ILA is a fatal disease that can lie latent for a long time before it breaks out, and when disease has been confirmed in other cages, it is not unlikely that the escaped farmed salmon also have this disease. ILA can infect wild salmon, and also sea trout, but is not fatal to sea trout, which can then carry the disease with them to the rivers when spawning, and infect the entire watercourse in this way.
