Quizalofop-P-ethyl as per regulation (EU) 2019/973 is to be used as herbicide against grass. This active ingredient in some pesticides is known to cause serious marine pollution. Products with the active substance Quizalofop-P-ethyl have a hazard statement that it is very toxic to aquatic life, and very toxic to aquatic life with long-lasting effects.
Quizalofop-P-ethyl breaks down to the acid metabolite Quizalofop-P which is less toxic than Quizalofop-P-ethyl. In contrast, Quizalofop is also registered on the list of marine pollutants for being a substance that can cause serious marine pollution. Quizalofop-P-ethyl shows genotoxic effects on the cells of plants such as on the roots of onions (Allium cepa). It is also suspected of causing cancer.
Quizalofop-P Soybeans as feed has an MRL of 0.2 mg/kg. In contrast, the MRL for Rapeseed in feed is 2.0 mg/kg. The difference is big. This may mean that large proportions of rapeseed or rapeseed oil in feed can lead to an unacceptable amount of Quizalofop-P-ethyl in meat products. For Quizalofop-P, the MRL in the EU today is 0.4 mg/kg for both rapeseed and soybeans. The Norwegian Environmental Protection Association has opposed possible increased limit values for Quizalofop-P-ethyl in animal feed.
Quizalofop-P-tefuryl which in regulation (EU) 2019/973 is used as herbicide against grass. This active ingredient in some pesticides is known to cause reproductive damage. Quizalofop-P-tefuryl is known to be toxic to reproduction).
The active substance Quizalofop-P-tefuryl is probably not included in pesticides on the market in Norway. In contrast, it can occur elsewhere as a pesticide where rapeseed and soybeans are grown. Residual products from rapeseed and seeds can be used for feed. The effects of the drug at the levels tested in a study on rats were reduced weights in the testicles and effects on the blood such as anemia.
In the two-generation reproduction test of Quizalofop-p-tefuryl in rats, the following were observed: reduced conception rate, reduced number of live infants and other reproductive problems. Improper development in fetuses has been documented at doses with maternal toxicity.
Quizalofon-P-tefuryl is toxic to reproduction and can be discouraged for reasons of both the environment and health. Quizalofop-P Soya beans as in feed have an MRL of 0.2 mg/kg. In contrast, the MRL for Rapeseed in feed is 2.0 mg/kg. The difference is big. This may mean that large proportions of rapeseed or rapeseed oil in feed can lead to an unacceptable amount of Quizalofop-P-tefuryl in meat products.
