Press release
The basic report for the management plan for the Barents Sea – Lofoten:
The Norwegian Environmental Protection Association cannot accept petroleum operations in areas such as Lofoten and Vesterålen and Troms, which are particularly important as spawning areas for cod and important fishing areas.
The coast of Northern Norway has natural resources that are far more valuable and have far greater significance for the country than oil and gas.
The Norwegian Environmental Protection Association is very skeptical and cannot accept that attempts are made to model away and reduce the risk of natural destruction during operations and accidents at the planned petroleum activities along the coast of Lofoten, Vesterålen and Troms, among others. An acute discharge in the current area will in any case cause significant environmental damage to nature, fisheries and outdoor life. The environmental damage, whatever the degree, will be at an unacceptable level.
We cannot afford to expose fisheries resources and other natural resources to any increased risk of natural destruction.
