The Norwegian Environmental Protection Association demands that the death of birds in the cages be stopped with immediate effect

The Norwegian Environmental Protection Association has today sent a demand to the Directorate of Fisheries that the farming industry switch to bird-friendly nets over the cages or other good solutions, as the nets most breeders use today kill thousands of seabirds every single year.

For several years, the Norwegian Environmental Protection Association has been concerned about the mass death of birds that get stuck in the nets that breeders have over their cages to stop seabirds from grazing in the cages. Several horror examples of this have now and again come to NMF via photo materials taken by private individuals traveling in areas with farming activity. Last now with pictures of mass deaths of various birds such as cormorants, herring gulls, hooded gulls, gray gulls and herons. Here it can be added that Hooded Gulls and also Herring Gulls are classified as near threatened in the National Red List.
